About the job

Structural MIG Welder | Travel Contract | Apple Grove, WV | $45-$60/hr + Per Diem
Shift: 5:00 PM to 2:00 AM

Overview

Mural Group Industrial is hiring Structural MIG Welders for a travel contract at a major steel manufacturing facility in Apple Grove, West Virginia. The project is expected to run 3 or more months with real potential to extend. Per diem applies. This is a start-now opportunity and we are actively considering welders with 1 to 3 years of experience -- this project is heavily prep-focused and is a great fit for someone earlier in their structural welding career who wants consistent travel work at strong pay.

The Project

You will be part of a crew working on four large square structural steel silos on-site at an active steel plant. The silos are lying on their sides on the ground, putting the working wall at 12 to 14 feet in height. The work is primarily prep and structural tack/weld work: welding new external L-profile stiffener ribs onto the outside of the structure, followed by removing existing internal ribs. The bulk of the work is prep -- grinding, fitting, cleaning, and supporting the weld sequence -- making this accessible to welders who are still building their structural resume.

Total welding scope across all four silos is approximately 1,854 feet. The base material is ASTM A572 Grade 60 structural carbon steel, 3/8 to 7/16 inch thick. Welding is intermittent -- you weld a segment, leave a gap, move along, and weld again. This prevents heat-induced bowing and distortion on structural plate. The primary working position is flat-vertical. No overhead welding is required. Aerial lifts will be used for some work above 6 feet. Weld inspection is by magnetic particle testing. Welding procedure specifications (WPS) are provided by the client.

What You Need

Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI)

Two positions on this crew are reserved for candidates with a current AWS Certified Welding Inspector credential. If you hold an active CWI, note it clearly in your application. CWI candidates are prioritized and compensated at the top of the pay range.

What We Provide

Shift Hours

This is a night shift position. Hours are 5:00 PM to 2:00 AM. Per diem covers hotel and meals for travel workers. If you are comfortable working nights and want consistent, well-paying travel work, this is a strong opportunity.

Site Logistics

The facility has parking approximately half a mile from the work area. Workers drop tools at the work zone and park in an overflow lot. Carpool coordination is encouraged. You will be fully briefed on logistics before your start date.
