Knoxville Habitat for Humanity Internship
Position: Marketing and Communications Intern – Knoxville Habitat for Humanity
Location: Hybrid - Time split between the HQ (80%) and ReStore (20%)

Duration: Semester-based (Fall, Spring, or Summer)
Opportunity to extend into a subsequent semester based on performance and availability
Hours: Part-time, 15-20 hours per week
Compensation: $15 per hour
Position Overview
The Marketing & Communications Intern is a semester-long, learning-focused role designed to provide hands-on experience in nonprofit marketing and communications. The intern supports outreach efforts for both the Knoxville Habitat for Humanity affiliate and the Knoxville Habitat ReStore.
This role is supervised and collaborative. Interns assist with drafting content, supporting campaigns, and contributing to marketing projects under the guidance of the Marketing & Communications (MarComm) team. Final messaging, publishing, strategy, and decision-making remain the responsibility of staff.
The on-site schedule follows an 80/20 split between the affiliate headquarters and the ReStore, while project work supports both areas. This structure provides exposure to storytelling, digital marketing, campaign execution, and community engagement across both nonprofit and retail environments.
Key Responsibilities
With training and supervision, the intern may assist with:
Content & Digital Marketing Support
- Drafting social media captions and assisting with content content creation/scheduling (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
- Supporting email newsletters and digital communications
- Drafting content for blog posts, website updates, and events
Campaigns & Events
- Supporting promotion of fundraising campaigns, volunteer opportunities, and community events
- Assisting with event-day content capture and post-event recap materials
Photography & Creative Assets
- Capturing photos and short-form video at events or the ReStore (with guidance)
- Assisting with organizing and managing digital assets
Reporting & Organization
- Tracking basic digital engagement metrics and summarizing performance
- Supporting content calendars, timelines, and project organization
Responsibilities may expand gradually as skills and confidence develop.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Advertising, or a related field
- Strong written communication skills
- Interest in nonprofit work and community impact
- Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and collaborate
- Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools is a plus, but not required

Interns receive an Intern Handbook outlining expectations, learning objectives, and policies.
