About the job

High Plainz Strains | Fort Lupton, Colorado
Full-Time | $19.00/hour + tips

High Plainz Strains is hiring an Assistant Manager for our Fort Lupton dispensary.

This is a working retail management position. You'll help run the store during assigned shifts, provide direction to Front Desk Associates and Budtenders, handle cash and operational responsibilities, resolve customer and employee issues, and support the Store Manager.

We're looking for someone who can take ownership of a shift rather than simply complete an assigned list of tasks.

Cannabis retail experience is useful, but strong candidates may also come from retail, grocery, convenience stores, restaurants, hospitality or other businesses where supervisors are responsible for employees, customers, cash and daily operations.

What You'll Be Responsible For

Running the Shift

Good management here isn't standing behind the counter telling other people what to do. It's understanding what's happening throughout the store, deciding what needs attention and keeping the operation moving.

Cash, Opening and Closing

Assistant Managers may be responsible for opening or closing the dispensary and accurately accounting for store cash.

Responsibilities can include:

Cash discrepancies aren't something we simply write off and move past. Part of management is identifying discrepancies, documenting them and helping determine what happened.

Customer Service and Problem Solving

Assistant Managers handle situations that Front Desk Associates or Budtenders cannot reasonably resolve themselves.

That can include questions or problems involving pricing, discounts, transactions, promotions, products, store procedures or dissatisfied customers.

We're looking for someone who can listen, determine what actually happened and find an appropriate solution within company policy.

Sometimes good customer service means fixing a mistake. Sometimes it means professionally explaining why something can't be done. Managers need to be comfortable doing both.

Compliance and Accountability

Cannabis retail operates under Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division requirements, and Assistant Managers help ensure required procedures are followed throughout their shifts.

Those standards don't change because the store is busy, short-staffed, a customer is frustrated or the person standing in front of you is someone you know.

Managers are also responsible for addressing procedural or performance problems when they occur. That means giving clear direction, providing professional feedback, documenting or escalating issues when appropriate and holding employees to established expectations.

What We're Looking For

Strong candidates should demonstrate:

Previous cannabis retail experience is helpful but not required .

We don't want to exclude a strong retail supervisor simply because their management experience came from another industry. Cannabis products and systems can be taught. The ability to lead people, handle responsibility and exercise good judgment is much harder to teach.

You also don't need to make cannabis your entire personality to work here. You need to be comfortable working in cannabis, willing to learn the products and regulations, and take the responsibilities of managing a regulated retail operation seriously.

Schedule

This is a full-time retail management position .

Management shifts may fall between approximately 7:30 AM and 9:30 PM, Monday through Sunday, including opening, daytime and closing shifts. Weekend and holiday availability may be required.

This does not mean you'll work from 7:30 AM until 9:30 PM. Those hours represent the overall scheduling window within which management shifts may be assigned.

Compensation

$19.00/hour + tips

Tips are recorded and taxed as required and vary based on customer traffic, staffing, shifts worked and other factors. Tip income is not guaranteed.

Colorado Cannabis Requirements

Applicants must be at least 21 years old .

The successful candidate must hold an active Colorado MED Employee License before beginning regulated cannabis work .

Qualified candidates who don't currently have an active license may still apply if they are eligible and willing to obtain one before beginning regulated work.

Employees are responsible for obtaining, maintaining and paying for their required MED license.

Benefits

Full-time employees have access to:

Management Development

Assistant Manager sits between frontline retail leadership and responsibility for the overall store.

You'll develop experience in employee supervision, cash control, customer escalation, compliance, opening and closing, shift execution and retail decision-making.

Our typical retail progression is:

Front Desk / Budtender → Lead Budtender → Assistant Store Manager → Store Manager

Advancement is based on demonstrated skills, judgment, performance and available opportunities.
