What You’ll Do:
- Collect blood samples using venipuncture, finger stick, and other approved collection techniques
- Accurately identify patients and verify laboratory orders in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Prepare, label, and process specimens for in-house and outside reference laboratory testing
- Perform authorized in-house laboratory testing and accurately document results in the EMR
- Review laboratory orders and ensure appropriate collection materials and techniques are used
- Identify and report discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor and ordering provider
- Follow established protocols for specimen handling, processing, and storage
- Participate in quality assurance monitoring and maintain required laboratory logs
- Perform preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment and maintain a clean, safe work environment
- Follow infection control procedures and properly dispose of biohazard waste
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, CLIA, Joint Commission, and applicable clinic requirements
- Provide positive, professional, and proactive customer service to patients and team members
- Rotate between clinic locations as needed
- Complete required training and job-specific competencies
- Perform other duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ year of phlebotomy experience or Phlebotomy certification
- Knowledge of phlebotomy techniques, specimen processing, and laboratory equipment, including centrifuge use and maintenance
- CPR/Heartsaver certification or ability to successfully complete certification within 6 months of employment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong computer skills, including MS Office
- Ability to work evenings and Saturday clinics on a rotating basis
- Valid Texas driver’s license (or ability to obtain) and reliable transportation
- Ability to travel/rotate between clinic locations
- Must comply with GCHD immunization policy and ICS training requirements
- Must pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening
Preferred Qualifications:
- Phlebotomy certification
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Additional job-related training or certifications
- Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR)
- Previous experience in a clinical or laboratory setting
Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
