Position Overview
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides compassionate, person-centered support to individuals with daily living needs. The role assists with personal care, meals, household tasks, transportation, medication reminders, and participation in community activities. DSPs encourage independence and self-advocacy while helping ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of the individuals they support. The position also requires communication with individuals, families, and care team members and documenting services as required.
This position is located in Staten Island, New York.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide person-centered support with daily living needs.
- Assist with grooming, hygiene, dressing, and mobility.
- Prepare meals and assist with feeding when needed.
- Support light housekeeping and household management tasks.
- Provide transportation and accompany individuals to appointments, errands, and community activities.
- Assist with medication reminders and monitor overall well-being.
- Encourage independence, self-advocacy, and community participation.
- Document services and report observations or concerns to supervisors.
Requirements
- Genuine interest in working with adults with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities.
- Patience, compassion, and commitment to supporting others.
- Strong communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to provide personal care assistance and support behavior management.
- Strong safety awareness, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to document services and communicate observations or concerns.
- Dependable, professional, reliable, and able to work as part of a team.
- Prior experience working with individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities is preferred.
- Open availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed, is required.
- Must have a valid driver's license
Pay Range
USD $18.00 - USD $25.00 /Hr.
