About the job

This role operates on a hybrid model, based out of our Alexandria office a minimum of three days per week. Candidates must be comfortable working along active highways and construction environments, with the flexibility to support overnight shifts and work outside standard business hours when operational needs or high-risk activities arise. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving history is required.

Summary of the role:
The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Assurance Advisor plays a critical role in promoting a strong safety and environmental culture by ensuring the effective implementation of Transurban’s HSE Management System across highway maintenance and construction operations. This role is well suited for an experienced HSE professional who is comfortable in the field working with contractors and employees and operating in a corporate environment. You’ll have a direct impact by conducting assurance activities for high‑risk work, supporting audits and incident investigations, and driving continuous improvement in safety, security, and environmental performance. Joining Transurban offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of infrastructure and public safety, contributing to large‑scale transportation projects that help create safer, more sustainable communities. More details of the role are below.

Transurban:
Working at Transurban is different; it's a place where you can see the benefits of your work play out in real life, every day. We create transportation solutions-building and operating safer, smarter, and more sustainable roads-to solve pressing transport challenges.

About the role:
As the HSE Assurance Advisor, you will be part of Transurban’s corporate Delivery and Risk function, providing technical expertise, oversight, and guidance to highway operations and project delivery teams.

This role demands a balance of stakeholder engagement, technical compliance, and field presence. You will navigate dynamic construction and operational environments, exercising sound judgment to evaluate risk and oversee safety compliance.

If you meet some of these requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.
We are open to considering candidates who either reside in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area, are within a reasonable commuting distance to Tysons Corner and Alexandria, VA and/or are willing to relocate at their own expense. Candidates who reside in the DMV area will be prioritized.
