About the job

TelevisaUnivision Austin and Antonio is looking for a dynamic, competitive and creative Assignment Editor/Producer to join our Austin and San Antonio newsrooms.
This role is central to shaping our daily news coverage. The Assignment Editor/Producer is responsible for identifying and developing high-impact stories, managing day-to-day coverage and field logistics, helping lead editorial decisions, and producing compelling newscasts across platforms.
The ideal candidate has a strong sense of journalistic urgency and can quickly recognize the stories that matter most to our communities and have the greatest potential to drive audience interest. This person must know how to aggressively advance those stories, deploy resources strategically, anticipate what is needed to meet deadline and continuously look for ways to make our coverage stronger and more competitive.
This role requires someone who brings a competitive mindset and strong editorial leadership to the newsroom. The Assignment Editor/Producer should come to editorial meetings informed and prepared to help establish the direction of the news day, while fostering creative discussion that strengthens story angles and differentiates our coverage from competitors.
The ideal candidate must also clearly communicate the editorial vision and priorities to reporters, photographers, producers and other newsroom teams while remaining collaborative and open to ideas that may strengthen or change the original coverage plan.
Strong visual storytelling is also essential. This person should consistently look for creative ways to showcase stories, strengthen newscast presentation and make our journalism more engaging across broadcast, digital and social platforms.
The Assignment Editor/Producer will source and verify content through traditional reporting methods, community contacts, scanners, newsroom feeds and social media platforms; coordinate breaking news and planned coverage; field produce when necessary; and perform other duties as directed by News Management.
