About the Team
The Developer Platform Product Management team at Workday drives the product vision and strategy for one of our greatest differentiators: the technology platform that was purpose-built for the cloud. Product managers here are involved in every aspect of the product lifecycle — from crafting features that delight customers, to evangelizing improvements across internal and external audiences, to obsessing over the details that make an outstanding end product. We are growing fast, and we are looking for people who combine strategic vision with a record of getting high-demand products to market.
About the Role
The Developer Platform is an embedded platform-as-a-service (PaaS) built on highly scalable cloud backend infrastructure and AI capabilities, enabling enterprise applications, AI agents, and core integrations to run securely and reliably.
As a Senior Product Manager (P4) on the Developer Core Services team, you will serve as the strategic product lead responsible for building, scaling, and advancing our platform telemetry, logging, and observability foundation. You will lead cross-functional execution across backend engineering teams, drive architectural evolutions, and deliver high-throughput observability pipelines, OpenTelemetry (OTEL) integrations, enterprise logging systems (e.g., Splunk), and infrastructure telemetry APIs that underpin the entire developer experience.
- Key Responsibilities -
- Strategic Observability Roadmap & Telemetry Ownership: Define, own, and maintain a multi-quarter product roadmap for platform observability, centralized logging, and metrics gathering—treating internal telemetry architecture as a product to drive system visibility, real-time monitoring, performance analysis, and platform resilience.
- Scalable Telemetry & Logging Pipelines: Architect resilient, high-availability telemetry collection pipelines and standards using OpenTelemetry (OTEL) to handle high-volume logs, distributed traces, and metrics to seamlessly power enterprise logging (Splunk) and downstream developer analysis.
- Enterprise Monitoring & Dashboarding: Establish and operationalize measurable telemetry KPIs, SLIs/SLOs, and interactive monitoring dashboards in tools like Splunk and cloud-native monitoring tooling to track service reliability, identify performance bottlenecks, and optimize platform adoption.
- Cross-Functional Orchestration: Partner deeply with development teams, system integrators, site reliability engineers (SREs), and internal backend engineering groups to align technical dependencies and unlock platform velocity.
- Multi-Team Delivery Ownership: Operate as a Senior PM lead guiding multiple scrum teams. Drive end-to-end product delivery from technical design and OTEL spikes through testing, rollout, and post-launch optimization.
- Architectural & Operational Governance: Lead technical and business trade-off discussions around legacy logging decommissioning, tenant lifecycle management, security/compliance, and zero-trust telemetry patterns.
- Community & Evangelism: Serve as the primary product advocate across developer events, customer advisory boards, and internal forums, effectively translating complex observability capabilities into clear value for software engineers and platform builders.
About You
- Basic Qualifications:
- 8+ years of product management, software engineering, or technical platform leadership experience, with proven ownership of developer-facing software products, cloud infrastructure, or monitoring tools.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience building, scaling, or managing observability platforms, log management systems (e.g., Splunk, ELK), monitoring tooling, or OpenTelemetry (OTEL) telemetry infrastructure.
- 4+ years of experience working cross-functionally across complex technical dependencies with multiple engineering, SRE, and architecture teams.
- Proven expertise with OpenTelemetry (OTEL) standards, log aggregation, distributed tracing, and enterprise monitoring frameworks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to articulate complex telemetry and observability architectural concepts clearly to executive stakeholders and software engineers.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Deep technical expertise with OpenTelemetry (OTEL) standards, high-volume enterprise logging architectures (e.g., Splunk, Datadog, ELK), and cloud-native observability stacks.
- Strong background in defining telemetry metrics, conducting usability spikes for developer tools, and using operational monitoring data to drive product decisions.
- Experience leveraging AI-powered tools and platforms to automate observability workflows, analyze logs, or enhance developer troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated track record of taking platform observability products from initial concept to commercial availability and continuous post-GA iteration.

Our Approach to Flexible Work
With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.
