Maintenance Technician I
Location: Salinas, CA
Department: Facilities
Schedule: Full-Time, Exempt
Purpose of the Role
Maintenance Technician I (Facilities) is responsible for performing and supporting preventive and corrective maintenance activities on buildings, facilities, and technical installations to ensure optimal performance, reliability, safety, and availability. This role independently resolves routine maintenance issues, conducts inspections, supports capital projects, and collaborates with internal stakeholders and external contractors to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Independently diagnose and resolve facility and equipment malfunctions according to work orders and established procedures.
· Perform repairs and corrective maintenance activities to minimize downtime and maintain operational continuity.
· Escalate complex issues when necessary and provide recommendations for resolution.
· Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks accurately and within established timelines.
· Ensure equipment, systems, and facility components operate efficiently and safely.
· Maintain maintenance records and documentation in accordance with company standards.
· Conduct routine inspections of buildings, grounds, utilities, and facility systems.
· Identify potential maintenance concerns and report findings promptly.
· Monitor facility conditions to support operational reliability and safety.
· Receive, direct, and supervise contractors performing maintenance or repair activities.
· Ensure contractor work complies with company standards, safety requirements, and project specifications.
· Verify work completion and provide feedback to the Facility Manager.
· Maintain accurate records within the Maintenance Management System.
· Monitor facility systems including security systems, building management systems, fire alarm systems, and burglar alarm systems.
· Respond appropriately to system alerts, alarms, and emergency notifications.
· Participate in facility improvement and capital expenditure (CapEx) projects as a project team member.
· Support project implementation activities within established budgets, timelines, and specifications.
· Promote a culture of safety and quality in all maintenance activities.
· Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and applicable laws.
· Monitor third-party work to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
· Document equipment failures, maintenance trends, and operational deviations.
· Provide recommendations for process improvements and preventive measures.
· Communicate findings, opportunities for improvement and needs to the Facility Manager and stakeholders.
· Communicate with Contractors, vendors, and service providers for maintenance, repairs, inspections, and facility projects.
Required Skills and Qualifications
· Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
· Working knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and preventive maintenance programs.
· Understanding of workplace safety procedures and regulations.
· Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Service-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to customer service.
· Flexibility to respond to urgent maintenance needs.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
· Forklift certification
Experience & Certifications
· Minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant facilities maintenance experience.
· Associate degree, vocational training, or equivalent technical education in Facilities Maintenance, Building Systems, Mechanical Maintenance, Electrical Technology, or a related field preferred.
· A valid driver’s license.
· Must meet eligibility requirements under the company’s driver insurance policy.
· NEN3140 Skilled Person (VP) or equivalent electrical safety certification preferred.
· VCA (Safety, Health and Environment Checklist for Contractors) or equivalent safety certification preferred.
· Working at Heights Certification preferred.
· BHV (Company Emergency Response) certification or equivalent emergency response training preferred.
Working Conditions
· Participation in on-call rotation and availability to respond to facility emergencies on a 24/7 basis when required.
· Frequent use of maintenance equipment, power tools, and potentially hazardous equipment.
· Work in varying indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to changing temperatures and weather conditions.
· Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and move items up to 60lbs, bend and prolong standing and sitting.
· May require walking, climb ladders, and working at heights for extended periods.
Ability to work under time constraints, particularly during peak seasons.
· Travel time required about 40% between San Juan Bautista, CA and Salinas, CA depending on the business need of each location. Main location is Salinas, CA.
Compensation & Benefits

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $61,911 - $88,443 annually
