Description of Work
The primary purpose of this position is to assist the supervisor with overall laboratory planning, budgeting, and management of laboratory operations. This position assists the supervisor with staff selection, performance evaluation, and the laboratory information system (LIS) related tasks. In the supervisor's absence the employee directs the overall operation of the laboratory and supervises the lower-level technologists and laboratory assistants. The employee serves as a technical resource to the other staff in quality control, equipment, and instrumentation, troubleshooting and procedure problems. The position may assign and review all work. Central Regional Laboratory provides services to over 800 patients (CRH, Murdoch and Whitaker) at an inhouse volume of ~15,000 tests plus another 300 accessioned and sent to specialty contract lab monthly. The lab maintains accreditation with the College of American Pathologists.

This Position Is Designated as Mandatory and Must Report or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance and retirement. The normal work schedule is variable Monday - Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.; however, flexibility is required to meet facility needs.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory technology, chemistry or a biological science from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in a medical laboratory in the assigned area;
or
Associate’s degree in medical technology from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of medical laboratory experience;
or
Completion of a certified laboratory assistant course in medical technology or a comparable course from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of medical laboratory experience;
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
