Position OverviewThe Nurse Aide and Unit Secretary at United Health Services (UHS) Chenango Memorial Hospital (CMH) serves as a vital connection between patients, families, and the care team, helping create a positive and efficient care experience. This role combines direct patient support with clerical and coordination responsibilities to ensure smooth unit operations, accurate communication, and timely access to care. Job Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Deliver clerical, receptionist, and direct patient care support to ensure efficient unit operations and a positive patient and family experience
Greet patients, visitors, and staff, providing accurate information, directions, and communication updates to support care coordination and service excellence
Manage unit communications by answering telephones, relaying messages, and coordinating with clinical teams to maintain timely and accurate information flow
Maintain patient records by assembling, organizing, and filing charts, entering admissions, discharges, transfers, orders, and charges using electronic systems
Provide basic patient care support including assisting with hygiene, feeding, mobility, vital signs, and intake/output documentation to promote patient comfort and recovery
Support clinical procedures and readiness by preparing patient rooms, assisting with transports, and ensuring availability of equipment and supplies
Coordinate scheduling, pre-operative preparation, and interdepartmental communication to ensure seamless patient flow across services
Scope and Impact:
Contribute directly to patient satisfaction, safety, and care quality through effective support of nursing staff and unit operations
Support timely clinical decision-making by ensuring accurate documentation, communication, and availability of patient information
Exercise judgment within established protocols to prioritize tasks, respond to patient needs, and escalate concerns appropriately
Maintain accountability for assigned clerical and patient care duties under supervision while ensuring accuracy and completion of tasks
Influence team efficiency by maintaining organized workspaces, restocking supplies, and supporting operational readiness
Compliance and Professional:
Adhere to HIPAA requirements by safeguarding patient health information and maintaining confidentiality in all interactions
Follow infection control protocols, safety standards, and proper use of personal protective equipment to ensure a safe care environment
Complete required training, competencies, and ongoing education within established timeframes to maintain role readiness
Apply proper body mechanics and patient safety techniques, including use of equipment and positioning practices, to prevent injury
Document patient information, care activities, and unit tasks accurately in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory standards
Safeguard sensitive data by following established security policies and procedures, using systems responsibly, and promptly reporting potential security incidents, risks, or policy violations
As applicable to your role, support cybersecurity and data protection requirements throughout the supplier lifecycle by coordinating vendor risk assessments, monitoring third-party compliance, and promptly reporting identified supply chain or cybersecurity risks

Position Qualifications
Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Up to 1 year of direct experience performing the exact or very similar duties required by the job within the same role or function
Up to 1 year of customer/patient-facing experience directly interacting and communicating with the public
Preferred:
Up to 1 year of healthcare experience working in the healthcare industry in any job function
Up to 1 year of technical/systems experience using specialized tools, software, or equipment required for the role
Up to 1 year of experience in the same work environment or setting (hospital, practice, department/division)
