This PSM Engineer position located at the Battleground Plant in LaPorte, Texas is accountable for Process Safety Management (OSHA), Risk Management Plan (EPA), and Responsible Care (ACC) program. The role supports site objectives by effectively implementing and maintaining policies and programs consistent with OCC and OVLP expectations.
- Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport products as the highest priority.
- Promote a respectful, supportive work environment where employees are encouraged to grow and succeed.
- Maintain and improve Process Safety Management (PSM) , Risk Management Plan (RMP), and Responsible Care (RC) programs for the Battleground Plant.
- Develop and issue the annual PSM, RMP, and Responsible Care activity plan.
- Provide ongoing reporting of PSM, RMP, and Responsible Care program status to plant management and corporate, including monthly PSM Focus Meeting updates on key objectives.
- Develop, update, and track action plans related to PSM, RMP, and Responsible Care tasks and requirements across the organization.
- Arrange contract services support for PSM, RMP, and Responsible Care related activities.
- Communicate employee concerns related to PSM, RMP, and Responsible Care activities to appropriate supervision and management.
- Develop, review, and maintain PSM, RMP, and RC procedures and guidelines to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Perform formal and informal audits of PSM, RMP, and Responsible Care elements to verify compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Coordinate HES Risk Engineering and Insurance Department activities and technical issues.
- Maintain current knowledge of company and government rules, regulations, and standards related to process safety management.
- Provide consultation and assistance in related technical areas of expertise, including electrical systems and mechanical integrity.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. Other engineering disciplines will be considered based upon relevant experience.
- Prior positions should include 5-10 years of plant process, maintenance, or project engineering work to effectively interact with plant management, including Safety, Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering.
- Requires in-depth knowledge of OSHA, RMP, Responsible Care, and company standards relating to process safety management.
- Physical requirements – Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
Additional Desired Qualifications
- High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read, write and speak in English • Working knowledge of PHA-Pro, ARA or equivalent software
- Working knowledge of Fault-Tree analysis and LOPA
