We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Production Superintendent within our Battleground Plant located in La Porte, TX. This position is accountable for safe, reliable, efficient and compliant plant performance across the production areas. The role leads Process Supervisors, Shift Supervisors and designated production support personnel to achieve safety, environmental, quality, cost and production objectives while developing the workforce and supporting continuous improvement.
- Maintain as our highest priority the protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products.
- Embed Process Safety and Risk Management principles in department operations and establish meaningful annual process safety goals and activities at all organizational levels.
- Lead or delegate an effective response to emergencies to minimize safety and environmental impacts, including supporting the central Emergency Operations Center as trained.
- Ensure compliance with plant policies, operating standards, planned inspections, manufacturing guides and other required programs.
- Develop and execute operating plans that deliver quality products safely, efficiently and reliably, including responsibility for chlorine and caustic production schedules and related customer and corporate communication.
- Provide daily direction to Process Supervisors and Shift Supervisors; review key operating parameters and direct changes to plant operations as needed.
- Promote consistent operation, application of policies and procedures, and accountability across all process areas.
- Manage the overall production plan for major shutdowns, including detailed shutdown, decontamination and start-up plans developed with Process Supervisor input; provide technical support for minor equipment and process shutdowns.
- Perform designated duties of the Production Manager during absences.
- Create an environment in which employees are respected, supported and encouraged to grow and succeed.
- Lead, coach and provide performance feedback to production supervisors and designated production support personnel.
- Ensure operator training, progression and qualification programs are effective and that all compliance and employee qualification requirements are completed.
- Set work priorities, strengthen accountability and develop the production workforce to meet plant objectives.
- Partner with Maintenance to identify, prioritize, plan and schedule routine, turnaround and capital work, and support effective management of the maintenance backlog.
- Define outage timing and scope and coordinate outage planning and cost objectives with Maintenance leadership.
- Identify, prioritize and support Battleground capital projects, incorporating input from production personnel.
- Develop long-term solutions to operating and reliability issues through engineering and cost analysis.
- Establish expectations for continuous fixed and variable cost improvement; identify opportunities, prepare analyses and report cost performance.
- Maintain effective working relationships with customers, raw material suppliers, corporate contacts and plant support functions to support product quality and optimum operations.
- Build direct communication with similar plants to strengthen troubleshooting and knowledge-sharing networks.
- Coordinate daily with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Safety, Environmental, Human Resources, Capital, Purchasing and Accounting partners to achieve plant goals.
- Qualifications
- B. S. degree in Engineering (preferably Chemical) with a minimum of five years plant process experience.
- High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Ability to read, write and speak in English.
- Must be able to respond to off hour emergencies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis.
- Physical requirements - Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.

- Good working knowledge of SAP
