This position is accountable for executing key human resources functions including interviewing, employee onboarding, administration, benefits, payroll, budgeting, employee discipline and employee relations. This role is also responsible for ensuring plant policies and procedures are consistently and correctly applied in order to provide for a positive labor relationship with plant personnel.
Essential Functions :
- Administers Human Resources policies, provides guidance to plant management in the interpretation and enforcement of policies and procedures including the collective bargaining agreement.
- Interviews and screens employment applicants for exempt, non-exempt, and technician positions, determines applicant qualifications and makes appropriate recommendations with regard to offers of employment; audits performance of newly hired employees.
- Conduct exit interviews to determine reasons for termination of employment.
- Participates in collective bargaining labor negotiations.
- Administers the grievance and arbitration procedures. Tracks grievances and discipline.
- Represents the Company in arbitration hearings. Conducts investigation, assists in the preparation of witnesses for testimony and defense of Company actions to arbitration to minimize Company liability.
- Direct and aids in the preparation of job descriptions. Evaluate job descriptions for completeness
- Develops and maintains professional contacts in industry and with employment sources and the local college.
- Counsels employees on confidential matters.
- Coordinates special human resources projects as requested.
- Maintains active lines of communication with plant employees by frequent plant visits.
- Work with managers on discipline cases.
- Assist Human Resources Manager as needed.
- Administer job posting/selection process for the Ludington plant.
- Actively participates in plant’s Health, Environmental, Safety and Security (HESS) programs to assure a safe and environmentally sound workplace.
- Actively participates in safety meetings and various other HESS programs while promoting safety through offering recommendations to other employees on working safely.
- Actively support plant and corporate HESS safety programs, objectives, and expectations.
- Follows the Ludington Guiding Principles.
Other Expectations
- The Human Resource Specialist is expected to maintain good working relationships with fellow Technicians, Managers, Engineers, Coordinators, and contractors.
- Must be cooperative, dependable, flexible and show initiative when performing assigned duties.
- The Human Resource Specialist is also responsible for staying abreast of changes in respective areas of the plant.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in HR Management, Labor Relations, or another related field with applicable experience
- Ability to Climb multiple flights of stairs to access the top of tanks , buildings, and process equipment.
- Must be able to perform duties requiring standing for extended periods of time.
- Climb step and extension ladders to access process equipment
- Ability to wear all required PPE.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in employee relations, labor relations, training, and recruiting.
