As a Senior Software Engineer II, you will help build and scale client-facing applications for Rocket Mortgage client sites, creating the digital experiences that clients rely on as they move through the home financing journey. The work you ship will be used directly by clients, shaping how they interact with Rocket and directly impacting client satisfaction, engagement, and conversion.
This role is for an engineer who wants to own meaningful product outcomes end to end: understanding the client and business problem, shaping the technical approach, building across the stack, deploying to production, and learning from real usage. You will be expected to use AI as a core part of how you design, code, test, debug, review, and ship software.
You will work closely with engineers, product partners, designers, and business stakeholders across distributed teams. The ideal candidate is highly driven, comfortable with ambiguity, and excited to help define what AI-native engineering looks like in practice.
- About the Role
- Own and lead complex, cross-cutting full-stack initiatives from problem definition through design, implementation, release, measurement, and iteration.
- Build client-facing product capabilities that help clients understand their options, complete key actions, and move forward with confidence on Rocket Mortgage client sites.
- Design and implement scalable, performant frontend and backend solutions using technologies such as React, TypeScript, GraphQL, AWS, and Kubernetes.
- Design and evolve GraphQL schemas and APIs that give client-facing applications fast, reliable, and well-structured access to data.
- Build accessible, responsive, and secure user experiences that meet the quality bar expected of a regulated financial services brand.
- Use AI tools and agentic development workflows to increase engineering speed, improve quality, and raise the bar for how the team builds software.
- Partner with product, design, data, and business stakeholders to translate ambiguous business needs into reliable technical solutions.
- Lead architecture and technical strategy decisions that balance speed, scalability, maintainability, and business impact, and drive them to alignment across teams.
- Collaborate effectively across distributed engineering teams, including partners in India.
- Mentor and coach other engineers, raise the team's engineering standards, and model high ownership. Guide less-experienced engineers through design reviews and complex delivery.
About You
You are a builder who cares about outcomes, not just tickets. You move quickly, and also hold a high bar for quality, especially for experiences that clients see and use directly. You are curious about AI, already using it seriously in your development workflow, and excited to push the team toward better ways of working.
You are comfortable operating in an early-stage product environment where requirements evolve, priorities shift, and strong engineers are expected to bring clarity rather than wait for perfect instructions.
- Minimum Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong experience building production web applications with React and TypeScript.
- Hands-on experience designing, building, and consuming GraphQL APIs.
- Experience building full-stack applications across frontend, backend, APIs, and data integrations.
- Experience designing, deploying, or operating applications on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Deep understanding of software design, system architecture, testing, observability, and maintainability, with a record of leading technical designs for large or multi-team initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to solve ambiguous problems, influence without direct authority, and collaborate effectively across teams.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Strong hands-on usage of AI tools in professional software development workflows.
- Experience using AI coding agents, AI-assisted reviews, prompt-driven development, or multi-agent workflows.
- Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD, automated testing, and production operations.
- Experience building Node.js-based GraphQL services and schema design practices such as federation, schema versioning, and performance optimization.
- Experience with front-end performance, web accessibility (WCAG), and security best practices for client-facing applications.
- Track record of delivering features in greenfield, early-stage, or rapidly evolving product environments.
- Experience in fintech, financial services, or consumer-facing digital products.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, lead through influence, and shape engineering practices across multiple teams.
