A Brief Overview
The Facilities Painter/Facilities Specialist performs skilled painting, finishing, repair, and general facilities maintenance work to preserve the appearance, safety, and reliable operation of healthcare facilities. This position prepares and finishes interior and exterior surfaces; repairs walls, ceilings, building components, equipment, and physical structures; and assists with maintenance across multiple trades. The position works independently and collaboratively with the Facilities Management team, coordinates work to minimize disruption to patients, visitors, and staff, and documents completed work in the computerized maintenance management system.
Experience Qualifications
- 2 years Experience in facilities maintenance, building operations or related experience or training. Preferred
- 2 years Experience in commercial, industrial, healthcare, or institutional painting Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of painting techniques, materials, and surface preparation methods.
- Knowledge of drywall repair and finishing techniques.
- Use of brushes, rollers, spray equipment, ladders, scaffolding, and lifts.
Licenses and Certifications
- Drivers License - DMV Current Valid Driver’s License and Clean MVR with 3-year baseline and annual MVR review. Required
What you will do
- Prepare interior and exterior surfaces for painting and finishing by cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, masking, and completing drywall repairs.
- Apply paint, stain, varnish, epoxy coatings, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment; match existing colors and maintain paint and finishing-supply inventories.
- Install, repair, and remove wall coverings and specialty finishes; paint and maintain walls, ceilings, doors, trim, cabinets, railings, floors, facility equipment, safety markings, directional signage, and striping.
- Inspect painted surfaces, physical structures, machinery, and equipment; identify deterioration or malfunction and complete or coordinate needed preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Repair and maintain building components and physical structures, including walls, ceilings, partitions, counters, benches, doors, trim, and other wood or finish materials.
- Perform general facilities maintenance within demonstrated competency, including basic mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and equipment repairs; assist qualified trades personnel with specialized work as needed.
- Safely operate and maintain hand and power tools, ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and other assigned equipment; use required personal protective equipment and follow safety requirements for chemicals, coatings, equipment, and hazardous materials.
- Coordinate work schedules and containment measures to minimize disruption and maintain a safe, clean, and functional environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and properly store, label, and dispose of paints, solvents, coatings, tools, and related materials.
- Use the computerized maintenance management system to receive assignments and document inspections, labor, materials, work performed, and completion status.
- Respond to urgent and emergency maintenance needs and participate in the designated on-call rotation as assigned.
- Assist with snow and ice removal, including shoveling, operating assigned vehicles or equipment, and applying deicing materials to public passageways.
- Assist with facility moves, event setup, material handling, and other departmental projects as needed.
- Perform other related facilities maintenance duties as assigned.
